Second Breakfast, anyone?

Okay, since I’m such a Lord of the Rings geek, I just had to bring this story to your attention.

Yes, that’s right. In anticipation of Peter Jackson’s soon-to-be-released The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Denny’s will be offering a Hobbit-inspired menu starting 11/6/12. And I can’t wait!

Now, I know this will be nothing like Bag-End at Hobbiton, a tiny little hole-in-the-wall restaurant (yes, perfect for a hobbit) that used to exist in upstate NY in the nineties. The walls were covered in LOTR memorabilia/maps/artwork and such, and the food – while not exactly lembas – was extremely delicious. I have very fond memories of brie on toast points, to name just one favorite.

Sadly, this charming little restaurant is gone. Denny’s will now take up the banner of Middle Earth fare, and I don’t think it will be anywhere near as good as Bag-End. Much like most book-to-movie comparisons, the overall experience of little old Bag-End at Hobbiton will likely far surpass the flashy new Denny’s version. But I’ll still be there on November 6th, just in time for Second Breakfast.
